When I first heard "Machines on Treadmills" by James Fabio I wanted to remix it. I love the vocal harmony and the huge stereo field. I thought the song had a lot of room for some different variations to be created!
The first part of the project was to mix the song and get it as close to the original as possible...
Then I wanted to add some groove changes in halftime and doubletime. There were no drums in the original!
I decided to design some eerie synth pads underneath to create a little bit of a different feel. Some of the old parts had to go...
For the last variation I got rid of everything but the vocals. I recorded live piano and bass onto the track to completely change the feel. I stayed in the key of Gm but borrowed chords from the parallel key!
